Major League Soccer kicked off their 16th Season last week, and reigning 2010 MLS Champions Colorado Rapids hope to retain their Title. The question remains though, can they do it again? A lot of people think that last year’s win was a sort of a fluke, so the Rapids have a lot of weight riding on their shoulders to pick up the repeat. Whether or not the team has the quality of last year remains to be determined. However, anyone that watched their 3-1 annihilation of the Expansion Side Portland Timbers to open the Season has to see the possibility of a repeat.

PostHeaderIcon Who the leader on the 2011 Portland Timbers

As one of two expansion teams new to Major League Soccer in the 2011 season, the Portland Timbers are hoping to make a splash rivaling the successful inaugural season their northwest rivals Seattle Sounders FC enjoyed back in 2009. If the Timbers hope to make a push for a berth into the MLS Cup playoffs, their fortunes will likely hinge on how well Kenny Cooper performs this season.
Who the leader on the 2011 Portland Timbers
Cooper comes to Portland with a wealth of MLS experience. He established himself as a prolific scorer while playing with FC Dallas from 2006 to 2009. In 90 games spread over four seasons, Cooper amassed 40 goals to rank second behind Jason Kreis on the club’s all-time scoring chart. He was twice named team MVP for FC Dallas and earned selections to the MLS All-Star team and MLS First XI team in 2008 after tallying a team-best 18 goals.

Besides being an MLS veteran, Cooper brings significant U.S. National team experience to the table. He earned 11 caps with the national team and scored five goals in international play. He helped the United States reach the finals of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup in his most recent stint.

Describing Cooper as the player most likely to impact Portland’s 2011 fortunes is a no-brainer. When he is healthy, Cooper is one of the most explosive scorers among MLS forwards. The problem is that the injury bug has bit the Baltimore native hard during his domestic and international soccer career.

Cooper made 12 starts and played just 14 games in 2007 after injuries sidelined him for much of the summer. He again was beset for

Chelsea was scrapped by many people I think. They haven’t won a single match on the road since October and I think were no longer considered a serious team by many.

That is why their recent trashing of Bolton in a massive 4 to 0 game last Sunday may actually change how many think about this once really powerful team.

To Bolton though it seems that the game came as a total surprise as they must have considered Chelsea an easy opponent to play and were expecting to handle them yet another blowing defeat on the road.

The best thing an individual can do is begin to play youth league soccer as a child, graduate to their school teams, and then continue to improve.
